I'm confused, in the question, you said ';medium/dark brown, but in the picture refernce, that is clearly a light brown. Could you provide a picture of a model who is similar to her skintone? Or is she Halle Berry, Gabrielle Union, or Beyonce's shade? This would help give you more precise advice!
If she wants shades that won't make her look darker, then use contrast. Since she (I'm assuming) has a golden undertone, use red. Red blush.. And black eyeshadow/eyeliner will also contrast with her yellow undertone. Do a smokey eye! Make sure to fill in her brows with a dark brown, or lightly applied black eyebrow.eyeliner pencil, then highlight it with a champagne color.
